Volvo Shines the Spotlight on Child Safety Seats

Volvo has been developing and testing child safety seats since the 1960s, recognizing the importance of rear-facing seats early. Here at Don Beyer Volvo Dulles, we’re proud of this focus on safety, and we wanted to bring some great news regarding child safety seats to our valued customers in the Washington DC and Northern Virginia areas. Take a look at the video below to see the seats demonstrated.

Many people have trouble getting children to stay in their safety or booster seat the appropriate amount of time. Often children complain that the seats are uncomfortable or there is not enough legroom, which is why one of the primary focuses on these Volvo child safety seats had to do with making them both safer and more comfortable, so children will actually want to sit in them. Using a child safety seat is one of the best ways to protect children during a collision, and these new seats are another step in the right direction toward the professed goal of no deaths or serious injuries in any Volvo vehicle by 2020.

The three seats are designed to suit the needs of children of different ages:

  • Infant Seat: reward-facing, suitable for children up to 13 kilograms (about 28 pounds) or 1 year of age.
  • Child Seat: reward-facing, suitable for children 9 months up to 6 years of age.
  • Booster Seat: forward-facing, suitable for children who have outgrown the reward-facing seats, ages 3 up to 10 years.

“We understand that many people find child safety in cars a complex and sometimes confusing subject. We have focused for many years on communicating clear guidelines around how child seats should be used and the correct way to install them. We believe that children will be more comfortable in our rearward-facing new seat and that this will encourage parents to keep their children rearward-facing for longer. This will have a direct impact on overall child safety and support our Vision 2020, where no one will be killed or seriously injured in a Volvo car by the year 2020.” – Lotta Jakobsson, Adjunct Professor, PhD and Senior Technical Leader, Injury Prevention at Volvo Cars Safety Centre
