Volvo Starts Ambitious New Project, Drive Me

Volvo takes your safety very seriously.

That’s why the Scandinavian car company is pioneering the development of autonomous driving (AD) systems as part of its 2020 dream that no one will be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo.

They recently launched Drive Me last September and they’re calling it the world’s most ambitious and advanced public AD experiment yet. Volvo believes it will reduce car accidents, free up congested roads, reduce pollution and allow drivers to free up valuable time in their vehicles.

What sets Volvo’s AD experiment apart from others is its customer-focused approach. Instead of relying solely on the research of its engineers, Volvo seeks to collect feedback from real customers using the autonomous cars in their everyday lives.

Once the AD cars go through a rigorous testing phase, overseen by Volvo engineers, they’ll be handed over to customers participating in the Drive Me pilot.

“Customers look at their cars differently than us engineers,” said Erik Coelingh, Senior Technical Leader Active Safety at Volvo Cars. “So we are looking forward to learn how they use these cars in their daily lives and what feedback they will give us.”
